Theodore Fairhurst Photos & Videos Hiking Bolivia, Huanya Potosi

Bolivia, Huanya Potosi

I went to La Paz, Bolivia November 2002 to climb Huayna Potosi 19,970' (6,088m) in the Cordillera Real Andes. The altitude of La Paz is almost 12,000', so it is a good place to begin acclimatizing. I then spent a few days on lake Titicaca at 12,700' and next I trekked through the mountains for 4 days to the base of Huayna Potosi. I was ready to climb but a tooth abscess forced me back to La Paz for medical attention. To recover I bused to the south of the country to the highest and largest salt lake in the world called Salar de Uyuni. After about a week I returned to Huayna Potosi and climbed.
