How I REACH
REACHING is the simple equation of daring, experience, determination and commitment. How much do you want to succeed? How willing are you to do what you have to do to make it work. It is not complicated but it takes resolve. And it takes passion to want to be there. Most important it takes knowing who you are and why you want to go there.
REACHING is managing your life. You manage your career, your home life, your debts. Manage what really matters to inner you – your passions. Go outside the box of where you usually live, and push the limits of what is lurking there. We all have our daydreams, but often our goals are smothered by daily reality. That’s ok. Manage them well. But keep the kid in you to never let go of your dreaming spirit to accomplish the impossible, to reach your dream.
I REACH by force. I just don’t give up. Call me crazy, but I keep focused on where I have to go. One step at a time works. It can hurt, you get in trouble at times, things seem hopeless, emotions get frazzled, your mind plays games and just wants to go home. Tomorrow is another day. You go on, one day at a time. Why, because you have to, it is what you are made of. This is how you measure yourself. Give it all you got. But at some point somewhere along the way if you realize in your gut this challenge is way too dangerous, impossible, not worth it – that is different. You gave it your best, now retreat. Bravo – be proud of yourself. There are plenty more dreams in your bucket.
Surviving the real estate plunge in the 90’s took fortitude; it challenged me to the core. Learning to properly jibe my sinker windsurfer took years of endless practice. Getting to the summit of my first high-altitude mountain took failures. I did not stop REACHING until I managed them. It took time but time is what I have. I have a lifetime. I loved what I was doing. Those things were me, and those things mattered for me to succeed. Believe in yourself. Don’t take the easy way, don’t look for excuses, don’t lose faith. Your psychology and fabric of character are built on your endurance. Don’t let yourself down.
How I REACH is how I live. I believe small daily reaches are as important as the really big ones. They build character, they build the platform you grow your life on. They matter in every facet of your existence. To REACH is to be alive, to be growing, to feel good about yourself. Life is short. You have only one. There is no second kick at the can. Make your life all it can be. Squeeze out all your brilliance – don’t let it go to waste. It is precious to REACH your greatness. ‘go for it’.
Helping You REACH
Teamwork is important but it is individuals who make the team. Schools are the structure but inspired teachers excite the passions of the students. Learning the lifestyle to DARE and to REACH is key to motivated and inspired people.
Managing to develop our passions and our goals in our lives is so important to grow our strengths which impact all facets of our character. DARING and REACHING build openness, boldness, resilience, formidability, problem solving, tenacity, focus and balance.
After climbing Everest I wrote: “Everest demands your psychological tenacity. You must be stubborn; you must hold fast; you must know why you are there. You must see what you don’t want to see, but be able to remove it from mind’s eye. You must focus on one thing or you will die. Your world is exactly one step at a time.” These qualities are learned from experience from being out there DARING. A person with diversified interests is a person capable of more focus and balance.
REACHING is simply taking the bull by the horns. Small steps grow. I am amazed by my own life how I have managed to realize such personal growth and accomplishments. I am from humble roots yet I have learned that one step at a time really works. Being positive, being determined, passionate and ready to hang in there for the long haul are learned traits that work and get you results.
I have a great story to tell – but ultimately adding value to help you REACH your objectives and entice you to strengthen your goals are my rewards. These include:
