Daring the unknown

Kids dream. Their imagination is huge, their aspiration to dare to reach boundless. It has been my experience speaking to kids that the imagery of mountains and the passion, hardship and determination that goes into climbing those mountains, takes them on a very valuable journey to the great opportunity awaiting them in life. It is not the size of the mountain, it is the size of the dream. Making them see and understand what goes into the preparation, resolve, tenaciousness, and above all the passion to reach one’s goals, drives home how one step at a time can make extraordinary things happen. Everyone of us has great hopes and dreams, but not everyone one of us will take that first step down an unknown path to get our enterprise off the ground. I want to inspire kids to be fearless taking that first step.

Adults need purpose and meaning in life. Why mankind pushed past the savannah, why we explore across oceans and space, why we dream to be an entrepreneur, is why we climb mountains. It is about pushing ourselves to another level. It is about finding out what we are made of. It is about discovering everything we can in our short but amazing lives. Daring to reach all our personal potential. In my talks to companies and organizations I try to convey this passion for life, my ‘Dare to Reach.’ At 22 I roamed around the world, at 35 I built a real estate company from scratch, at 58 I began an eight-year quest to summit the highest mountain on all 7 continents, and at 70 my ambitious challenge was to climb the highest volcano on every continent. I am forever inspired by so many men and women all around the world who take risks to achieve all they can in their communities and environments. It is about inspiring forward why we hold the candle searching down deep for that rock that needs to be turned over.

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
